Reduce, reuse and recycle our packaging

To keep your furniture safe during transit we use a variety of packaging, from cardboard to different types of tape and we want to do this as sustainably as possible. We reuse most of our cardboard from deliveries to us, and even sometimes from our staff members (you may see some Ikea packaging from our product designers' latest home improvements!)

We want this cycle to continue when we deliver our products to our customers to help avoid filling landfills with things that can be repurposed into educational and entertaining activities. Take a look at some examples below of different ways you can engage your students with recycling and creativity.

Cardboard activities:

Utilise cardboard in art projects to create 3D images, or go the extra mile and have a competition to see who can build the best doll house!

Creating a doll house will provide great learning opportunities for children, teaching them teamwork, problem solving and creativity, why not incorporate other materials you may have lying around such as bottle tops and straws as decoration or structural aid?

DIY pallet planter:

Any larger orders will arrive at the school on a pallet, these can be reused in so many different ways but a firm favourite of ours is the DIY pallet planter. A relatively quick and easy project that can be nurtured throughout the year and teach pupils about self-sufficiency, ecology and teamwork.

You will need:

1 x pallet

1x Staple gun and staples

1x roll of anti-weed membrane

Compost

Seeds/Plants

Method:

Place the pallet upright so that it is standing vertically.

Paint the pallet (if you please) to decorate.

Use a staple gun to secure the anti-weed membrane between the slats, allowing some slack to create troughs.

Fill the troughs you have created with compost.

Add plants, flowers, herbs or vegetable seeds.

Water frequently and watch your mini garden grow! 🪴

If you have any creative ways of recycling your Spaceforme packaging we'd love to see them. Email marketing@spaceforme.co.uk with images of your upcycled packaging for a chance to be featured!
